About us
The Agency for Meteorology and Climatology “ItaliaMeteo” is the new national meteorological service structure. As provided for by Law 205/2017 and consistently with the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), it operates to increase the competitiveness and efficiency of the Italian meteorological system, by strengthening and rationalising activities in the fields of weather monitoring and forecasting, climate and meteo-marine assessments and forecasts, together with national and regional weather agencies.
The Agency’s activities are subject to the technical-scientific supervision of the Committee for Meteorology and Climatology, in charge of formulating its strategic guidelines, and to the administrative, accounting and financial supervision of the Ministry of University and Research.
The ItaliaMeteo Agency is headed by Dr. Carlo Cacciamani (Presidential Decree of February 14 2023), former coordinator of the Central Functional Centre of the Civil Protection Department, director of Arpae’s HydroMeteoClima Service, head of the Functional Centre of the Emilia-Romagna region, lecturer for the University of Bologna as Contract Professor at the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences, within the MASTER of Applied Meteorology – Weather Forecasting and Nowcasting course.
