Meteorology

Reliable short, medium, and long-term weather forecasts are the result of a combination of several factors: deterministic and probabilistic models, observed data, computational resources, and experts able to make subjective assessments.

Forecasts

The ItaliaMeteo Agency spreads weather forecasts over the national territory, using the most modern numerical models of the atmosphere with high spatial resolution and promoting the progressive overcoming of a deterministic approach, through the development of ensemble systems.

Observed data

Ground stations

Detection networks make it possible to collect real-time data on changing conditions on the ground by remotely monitoring temperature, precipitation and other weather variables through stations distributed throughout the territory.

Ground stations

Radar

Radar networks provide indications of weather phenomena at a very small scale and rapid temporal response, detecting hydrometeors (rain, snow, hail) at a distance and thus allowing estimation of precipitation intensity.

Satellites

Meteorological satellites allow the acquisition of information about weather conditions across the globe and particularly about cloud bodies, also contributing to the improvement of very short-term weather forecasting.
