Sea State forecast (significant wave height, wave propagation direction, mean period, and peak period) on a Mediterranean Basin scale. Hourly predictions are provided up to +72 hours from the SWAN numerical wave model (Simulating Wave Nearshore) implemented within the operational forecasting system of Arpae Emilia-Romagna.
Sea state refers to the description of wave properties at a given location and time. The map visualization displays significant wave height in meters and the direction of wave propagation. Significant wave height represents the average of the highest one-third of waves within a given sea surface, ordered by increasing height.
